Headed out thismorning to look for the dollies which were meant to be about,\
Took us ages to get bait with yakkas being picky at first light but finally got a few and went out to the Dee Why wave rider.
and lo and behold - no bloody dollies - just a few rat kingies :banghead: didnt hang round for long after quick reappraisal of options, put out a spread and started trolling east. got about 40 or 50 mins into the session when we hooked up on the little pakula fluzi, and a little jellybean yellowfin about 5kg comes to the boat.:icon_smile_wink:
Feeling a little better we kept going to about 90- 100 fathoms when Bang...
the 7inch mcgoo root beer goes off screaming, of course on the lightest line in the spread - 15kg, on the tld 30.
wasnt good news from the start, with more than half the spool empty very quickly.
got stuck into it for a few minutes before a big jump and tailwalk from what looked to be around a 100-120kg marlin.
Then as it landed - nothing. It cut the line above the (obviously too short) double as it spun its tail around.
goodbye fish, goodbye nice new lure. :banghead: :1badmood:
day continued pretty quietly out to browns - cubed for a bit out there 4 zeros
headed back in with lures out again - double hook ups on two even smaller yellowfin around 3-4kg
headed in to peak wave rider - still hoping for dollies with our livies - but swarms of seriously rat kings (25cm) ruined things. Finally got a 50cm dolly on a pilly unweighted before the wind came up and we called it a day.
nice water out off the shelf, blue and warm, makes me keen to go again tho.
