Ron Calcutt passed away in hospital this afternoon following a short and courageous battle
with brain tumors. He was 69.

Ron was the most influential identity of our time. The central figure, who, along with
Bethune, McCristal and Erskine changed the face of our sport.

After retiring from publishing, Ron set up a marine and advertising consultancy on the
Gold Coast and always enjoyed wetting a line. Widely fished, he was a far better angler
than he ever gave himself credit for, and one of the truly great fishing writers.

When the time comes, there'll be a more fitting eulogy.

Ron Culcutt was a great fisherman and a very good fishing writer, a pioneer of many technics, and he taught me and millions of other would be fisherfolk the art of catching fish. But he was much more then just a fisherman and a writer, he was a genuine all round good bloke, and it didn't matter to him if you were a top notch fisho or a complete novice, he treated each person he met with respect, and done his damness to try and help people wherever he could. He was also one of Australias leading boat testers, and it was ron that convinced me to get the Savage Lancer 5.3 as a fishing boat some 23 years ago, a boat that I still fish out of today.
Although we drift apart over the years ( been around 15 years since I seen him ) I will miss him.
Condolences to his family.
Rest in peace.
Frank
