Went out yesterday for a late arvo bass hunt with some micro vibes, x small poppers, sp's as well as some garden worms and cicadas for insurance. Fished some drifted worms early and managed a few decent size herring and some xsmall bass, went for a hike though the gorge fishing the deep pools with the micro vibe but nothing but baby bass around 10cm, so i got the cicadas out around dusk and pinned one in the arse and let him drift out from the bottom of the fall into bents basin, after a quick 25m it got smashed, by what i don't know because i was into my beer around that time and missed the hook up. Does anybody else on here know where to hook a live cicada because mine were'nt lasting real long, i've been under the impression you hook them though the abdomen ?
CHEERS......AND HAPPY FISHING IN THE NEW YEAR.
only ever done it twice but an old guy told me tu use a rubber band to fix the hook to the cicada and assured they lasted for hours
this might help, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=staDQEoFNOs
you also need to use a small baitholder hook, the hooks with a few barbs on the shank
thats how you do it but stop being a soft c#%k & persist with the lures, when you work it out you will catch twice as many :smiile:.

so true beats i have cast a megabass siglet right next to a live cicada on the surface and you guessed it the bass tokk the lure. also i would prefer the strike from a bass on a lure anyday of the week

No worry's tiger, and i'll be sure to pack some viagra on me next trip hey. Very passionate about your lure fishing mate. :tease:
what can i say, i'm a hunter, not a loiterer :rolling laughter:notice the smily face in the previous post, was always intended in good humour.
however i'm serious, bass fishing, lures will out fish baits 7 outa 10 times, simple reason being bass are quite ferocious feeders "when they are feeding" & your covering more water with lures.
weather plays a far more important part when chasing natives than any other obsticle you could think of, you will still catch fish in unwilling situations but it's a lot harder, just gotta grind it out & maybe change your approach to suit.
i'm not saying bait doesn't catch bass thats rediculous, just saying when you work out what lures when & where & why, thats fishing in my eyes.

I can see your point beats, finding it a bit hard lately i lost my canoe to theives and i used to fish floating minnows at the banks to great sucsess but fishing off the banks lately has been a bit quiet and if i take some bait i always catch. Any tips for fishing bass landbased?

No challenge using bait on bass. Totally agree Greg.:hellyeah:
yeah just walk the banks & cast parralell under the willows, shouldn't be a problem.
