View Full Version : First report, A day with Pete Le Blang
Heh Heh, I get to post the first report,
Daryll, Andy from the CJ and I went on a charter with Pete le Blang today, we finally got away on our third attempt (the first two were cancelled due to inclement weather)
Got into some squid up past coasters retreat and set off for a kingie troll,
pretty quiet day unfortunately, the main patches of bait were off tailors Pt and there was some scattered and fast moving surface action,
Daryll was on strike and got the first Kingy a nice little hard fighting rat of about 55 cms
Unfortunately things quitened off after that, but we were there to get some tips on downrigging skills and techniques and all came home with a heap which should help next time we go out on our own.
All in all a very enjoyable day, with good company and a guide who is a great source of top info, good stories and funny jokes
Thanks Darryl, and Andy, (who will appear soon I am sure) and Pete Le Blang
You finally got out! Good stuff!
I bet Darryl was paying a lot of attention to the downrigger tips! I don't think he has caught any on Gunboat using the downrigger yet!
Sounds like a decent day out, well i spose any day on the water is! :D
So you recommend Pete? As i was think of going out with him sometime...

Good luck mate hope you get some gooduns.
Well done Pogo.
At least you were out there. The knowledge that you learn from Pete is easily worth the money paid for the charter.
Cheers

Hi Pogo
Thanks for the kind words mate but I am still disappointed that we only got half a kingfish. You have been out twice now and was thinking that your due to be on first strike next time around.
Unfortunately today was no better and the bloody kingies were smashing up around us again, just to let us know they are there. Little teasing sons of ***##*!
I will contact Daryl tonight to book another suitable day.
Pogo I need you to call me today if you can.
Try me on the mobile 0410 633 351.
All the best
Peter Le Blang

Yes I have  - one large but skinny sambo, to which Andy-from-the-CJ will attest.
And thanks again to Peter for a very interesting day on the water. Few fish but lots of great info which will only go to enhance Gunboat's reputation.
It has that name because it only accomodates gun fisherman

OK, I'm on, this is like a reunion, some very familiar names here. Iv'e been out with Pete a few times now and can vouch for his knowledge, skills, friendliness, jokes( ) as well. His a great guide and good bloke. Glad you guys are giving him business.
Gday Narra,
Welcome to the site mate!!!!
Pogo, Darryl, Andy,
Let me know if you need an extra crew member on your next trip with Pete. I would be more than keen to get involved.
I have heard nothing but good reports from people who have fished with Pete.
Rgds
Byron
Sure thing Byron. All the reports would be true; top bloke.
Cheers, Darryl
I've had a couple of trips out with Pete now (one with pogo) and learned heaps, including that bream take whole, trolled squid. Reece didn't know what hit him when he got on to a king. It wasn't an equal fight so he was done in short order.
You'll be seeing peril trolling around pittwater after christmas. Half hoping/fearing that I'm going to get a serious tow.
Can someone perhaps tell how fast you are supposed to troll live squid ?
Can someone perhaps tell how fast you are supposed to troll live squid ?
I have always been told to troll them at idle Grant. As slow as possible!
Thanks Joe, I sorta thought that but wanted to check :D
Yep, dead slow, 2kts or slower is best the faster you go the more chance of drowning the squid.
Pete is talking about getting a 10hp 4 stroke to use as a trolling motor.
If your trolling squid strips you can go a bit faster
Regards Pogo
