Saturday Fishing in Botany Bay

Had a good day on Botany Bay yesterday, mate and I caught 8 legal Bream (a couple were quite big) and one good tailor, lots of undersize ones thrown back plus two Banjo Sharks and two shovel nose sharks. A mate fishing next to us caught a legal Kingie which he gave to us (he threw it over so I guess we "caught it")

Got some pics but the battery on my Olympus camera is flat ( I left it on) so will add them tomorrow.

I filleted and skinned the Kingie then cut it into smaller pieces to smoke them. Never tried Kingie smoked so this will be a first. I have taken some pics of the smoking process and will do a seperate post on that next week. The smoker is working whilst I am typing this and the smell coming thru from outside the door is great, can't wait to taste.

We tried trolling for Bonnies from Bare island to the wreck then accross the bay and back to the monument. Towing a tiny metal lure and a deep diving Rapala. No Bonnies, no birds working but one Taylor jumped on the small lure. he was full of whitebait about the same size as the lure.

Tried the Sticks but no joy and ended up getting fish at the channel markers off Dolls Point. Heaps of boats out, Mol Point was like a car park, even had the boys in blue circulating around the boats in their big inflatable, ditto the Sticks.

Finally check the size of the lure that caught the Taylor, he was full of Whitebait the same size as the lure.

Think I am finally getting the hang of posting pics but still need to work out how to place a pic under each caption.

Good one Haji. One of the reasons I only go fishing on week days (generally) is the sheer numbers on the week end. I've been getting heaps of big blackies off the rocks the past 2 months. Got 9 yesterday in 2 hours.

KKW YOU ARE OUR ACE BLACKFISH CATCHER, AND I AGREE WEEKDAY FISHING BEATS THE HECK OUT OF WEEKENDS. I COUNTED 16 TRAILERS AT THE GUNAMATTA BAY RAMP LAST SUNDAY. BEING A ONE LANE AND A VERY SHALLOW RAMP I WOULD HATE TO BE THERE WHEN ALL THE BOATS COME IN. BLOODY CHAOS!

HAVE A LOOK AT THE LURE HANGING OUT OF THE SNAPPERS MOUTH, THEY ARE DEADLY IN DEEP WATER. I HAVE MADE SOME TO TRY AT ULLADULLA WHEN I GET A CHANCE TO TAKE THE BOAT DOWN THERE FOR A FISH.
