I decided to broaden my fishing area. I'm sure i read on here somewhere that some of you fish around the bridge. Is this true? My friend said something to me about you shouldnt fish in the harbour because of toxins. I thought this was bullshit. Any truth in it? Anyway me and my mate popped over to Milsons Point area for a fish just left of the bridge. We were there for a couple of hours around 3to 5pm yesterday. Caught bugga all. But happy that we werent out shopping with the wives. Anyway. Willing to get back down there after work someday. Since i work in the city and knock off at 3pm i can drive over the bridge and spend a couple hours fishing, So would you recommend it? Will i get lucky there? Is the back of 3 too early? etc etc. Thanks in advance.:bluefish:

Yeah there are some toxins in the upper parts of the harbour - particularly homebush bay where the whole problem started with a union carbide plant making agent orange in the 60's.
Apparently they dumped heaps of stuff in the bay at homebush in those days and now the river cats have stirred the bottom sediment up causing a few dioxinated fish especially around there.
Closer to the bridge however things r much better, if you dont take too many flatties or other bottom fish (or fish that eat too many upper river prawns etc)
fisheries now say that most fish east of the bridge r ok to eat and west of the bridge u should be careful about eating too much of it>> eg more than 150gms / month of bottom fish like the flatties etc.
Fishing can be OK around there though, bream and tailor around milsons especially on the high tide - as well as some squid (which eat upper river prawns so dont go overboard eating them)
on the other side at blues pt is a known area for good jewies, if you cast south west off the big white aerial on the pt there.
there can be heaps of pickers though so fish either while the tide is running ok with heaps of weight or with live yakkas or other live bait.
The south side of the bridge round all the piers is also great fishing for bream, and plenty of old timers fish there pretty regularly.....
Hope this helps

I always see late night fisherman down there at Milsons point. 11pm- onwards- its a great back drop and quite romantic. :nopity:
I always used to say to my girl- we're not leaving until I see him catch a fish! :idiot:
