North Harbour 14 Jan 2007

Went out on the Fish Hunter this morning around North Harbour, setting out near Davis Marina at 7:00am. First cast with a 3" sp minnow, hooked a 37cm flatty! Drifted around for about an hour and hooked another flatty around the same size. Had a few bites also with no hook up. Also spotted, what I think was a masive tailor going on 80cm, in about 5 feet of water.
Headed on out to deeper waters near Forty Baskets and hooked on to 3 tailor, all around 27cm (all on peeled prawn). Spent about 2 hours around the area for nothing more. Nice day on the water, though don't think the fishing has quite taken off yet in this part of the harbour, based on previous outings.
Got to try out my my new $49 Aldi Fish Finder, which woked a treat!

Wonder if that big tailor you saw might not have been a king or something else?
Did hear a guy caught a samson from under one of those boats in there this week ....

yeah Stef, it may well have been a kingie...that did occur to me, although it was more grey/silver. He chased the sp for a while then ran off. Imagine the craic that would have been if i hooked him!
btw, thants a lot for those jigheads you gave me last week...obviously worked wonders on the flatties!

p.s. never heard about the samson catch there. Just goes to show the myriad of species in that place.
And yeah, the water was just perfect.

In Aldis? Where? Only any use of a boat? $49? A steal.

In Aldi supermarket, yes, in Brookvale. It's a portable fishfinder, so you can use it of a boat, rocks or anywhere else. It's great. They're in the glass cabinets near the tills advertised for $79, but it came up as $49 when I bought it. I'm not sure if they're on special...I didn't hang around to ask!
