View Full Version : Bream in Botany Bay
Hi All
It's getting rather embarrassing. Every time I fish Botany Bay for bream I come back empty handed. Does anyone have some suggested spots where I might have more luck.
Dennis
ps - I've tried Bar Point, Towra Point, Woolaware and the hot water outlet...
Dennis. Watts reef just off capt cooks landing site is a good Bream spot.
Better in winter months, but worth a try now, there is also a great little reef in yarra bay but I ain't gonna tell yah exactly where:bluefish: .

Dennis, what gear r u using??
It might pay to try using unweighted baits and letting them settle through a berley trail right the way to the bottom, on light line..
Dough baits r good for that, with a bread and pilchard berley.

some of the spots are
off the 3rd runway
molineaux point
bare island (be carefull of the bommie)
watts reef ( at night is great)
drifting around brighton beach
the groynes(silver beach)
and any of the markers
also if have a sounder look for reef or gravel beds they always hold bream

Hi Nimrod
Thanks for the tip. I will search Yarra with my sound next weekend. Hopefully i find it and have some more luck. Otherwise i look forward to trying Watts in winter.

Hi Imnotafish,
I using 8 pound line, small sinker and a 80 cm track. Bait is frozen prawns. I have not used a berley in the past. I am begining to understand that this spots requires mun mare than a frozen prawn and a hook. How do i make a dough bait?
Thnks Dennis

I think my problem is that i am not using live or fresh bait. Are you drifting off silver beach? How light is super light? I'm using 8 to 10 pound gear with a Gamagatsu worm hook (size 1).

hey dennis
fresh or live bait mate either nippers , worms , fresh prawns, etc
as for hook size thats ok, but some times ya might have to go smaller by about a size or two as they can get very picky and we use 4lb gear in the bay for bream, whitting, trevs and even flathead ya get busted of some times but ya must go light and use as little lead as possible or none at all and yes drift around silvers beach and cast to every groyne hope fully that helps ya out

You are not alone.
I find Bream hard to find and catch in Botany Bay, but they are about. Mostly undersized though. If i have a good day and catch five, only one would be legal.
