I am new to rock & beach fishing and presently spend alot of time fishing from rocks in Sydney Harbour. Can anyone recommend some good locations around Middle Harbour or on the North Side??
I have spent many days down at North Head after a King but still not even had any real interest from a decent fish. I know my rigs are good and have had success from boats in the past....I can only assume that my lack of success with rock fishing is due to my poor location selections.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

hey mate i fish northern beaches rocks pretty much every morning of the week..Trust me big baits big fish, i use for most of my big king hook ups, i use live bonitos live salmon and many other types of baits for kings trust me kings will take anything that looks like its panicing under a float that cant go any due to the float ..i have got some big kings from nth head and blue fish, you have to tier them out,or if you have a heavy outfit yo can pretty much bring them straight to ya ...maybe we will bump into each other at nth head thsi next coming week...:whattha:

I fished North Head on Saturday arvo with two mates. I ran about 1m of leader off a float with a piece of dead squid attached.....no luck. The place I go is opposite the cafe on Nth Head, there is a small dirt carpark and i walk about 500m down along the old sandstone wall to sea level....is this a good location? It certainly looks like the goods.
What advice could you give me to catch some live bait for Kings? I have only ever used live bait a few times, pumping nippers for whiting. I am very keen to fish with live bait for pelagics.
thanks for the help.

That place is called old mans hat it fishes ok from about 5pm onwards to about 830pm for kings mornings arnt to bad..for kings you need live yakkas or fresh squid that head would of worked well out the front of nth head and blue fish point....you can get yakkas from little manly or balmoral but they are very hard to get at the moment from the shore.....i normally spin from there in the morning it works well there with about 65g....

forgive my ignorance, what are yakkas?
I am planning to go to Nth Head this weekend again, this time i will try and catch a few squid off the rocks before I rig up for the kings.

Yeakkas are Yellow tail. I think some people also call them Horse Scad but its very rare to hear them called that. A light burley of bread and cat food should bring em round then using a smallish hook and a pea sinker fish the mid water for them using a prawn or fish bait no more than 1cm square!
Every one has there own fave method in catching these trusty bait fish so you'll probably get a s#!t load of reply's.:icon_smile_big:
