View Full Version : Engine Hours
Can anyone confirm what is a reasonable number of hours for a used motor? I have heard that a new motor should do up to 1000 hours without any problems providing it is regularly serviced.
Does that mean that a motor that has done say 300 hours should have plenty of life left in it?

Yes mate, & weather it be a 2 or 4 stroke, if your worried, get a moblie guy (if you are not mechanically minded) to check it out & compression test it before you agree to purchace it.
Write a reciept for a deposit, say 10% or less if agreed is normal & state that your deposit & purchase is pending a mechanical check & OK. get the seller to sign & date it.

Hey Haji, used to sell quite a few 2nd hand units at an old job, like was said get compression checked, be sure its pumping enough water and if the seller is genuine ask for the motor to be serviced prior to you buying it that way you can be sure its up to scratch and the mechanic can check the compression etc. Tell the seller you will pay for the service if all ok with the engine. or if it has been recently serviced check reciept to see what was done to it.
Just wondering why would you want to get rid of your OMC, bloody great engine, parts still available, I used to work for Yamaha but would buy a Johnson or evinrude over them any day just on the savings of spare parts let alone the reliability.
Cheers
Should add that in the two years working there no new Yamaha engines we sold were returned with faults except the few where there was no service carried out at the specified intervals.
