does your outboard start first time??i usually take round 2minuts b4 my outboard will start after it hasnt started in a week..i trim it all the way down..unscrew the fuel tank valve,,,pump till gets ball gets hard..and start kicking it over..its a 90hp johnson ocean runner iv only had a few weeks..also i looked for a small lever like a cold start choke on the outboard like the one that was on my old yammy but couldnt find one...1 guy told me to run it dry after each use..iv played around with the choke 2..once it starts its sweet.
any ppl out there with tips for a quick start?

A service might help, Since my first boat I learnt that a regular 6 month or 100hr service usually removes bad things like that from the equation. Start ya bastard will be a quick fix, but there is nothing worse than it all going bad in bad conditions.

This may help....

Hard starting after setting all week

biminibob My '96 Johnson OceanRunner will not start unless I use starting fluid. It is difficult to get the fuel bulb hard and I have to pump it up many times. When it does start there is a lot of smoke and droplets of oil on the water surface. Once it is running it seems to be fine.2003-07-24

Xcusme Using starting fluid to start your motor is not a good idea. Starting fluid will strip the oil from the cylinder walls and that's not good. You're better off using fuel/oil mix in a spray bottle. Check the fuel line connectors for vacuum leaks. There are two small valves in the primer bulb that may be defective. Replace the fuel line, including the primer bulb and you should be good to go.2003-07-24

biminibob Thanks for the help. That's where I will start.

Theres usually too much info on the web to assist with all boating issues, have a look around you will usually find someone has had the same problem, from what I have just read on this site it may be as little as a vacuum issue or as serious as head gasket leakage, but have a look at this site I am sure you will find it helpful.

if it is a 2 stroke definately run the motor dry when flushing due to the fact the 2 stroke oil will build up in your carbis which then makes starting the thing a bugger.

my boat kincks over first time every time .

good luck mate
